The quartet achieved three Top 20 hits in the UK in the late 1970s and early 1980s: Lay Your Love on Me, Some Girls, and a cover of Dion's Runaround Sue. The song was included on Racey's debut album Smash and Grab. Another track, Kitty, was an international hit in 1981 for Toni Basil when she reworked it into Mickey. The band formally split in 1985. Racey singer Richard Gower went on to become a songwriter for Hot Chocolate I Gave You My Heart Didn't I and Suzi Quatro Tonight I Could Fall in Love.
