Short intro

Fabrique was Fashion's 1982 second album. It was produced by Zeus B. The album included the following UK hit singles: Streetplayer Mechanik which reached No. 46 in April 1982 and Love Shadow, which peaked at No. 51 in August of the same year. The album itself peaked at 10 in the charts, spending 16 weeks on the top 100. The track Whitestuff was featured in the television show Miami Vice's two-hour season 2 opener, Prodigal Son and You Only Left Your Picture, in another episode. Fashion-Fabrique is a page dedicated to the creation of the band and the making of the Album. Its great to be working together again after 37 Years. In 2020 this is an album that cannot be framed in a traditional genre box. Way ahead of its time in the 80s, it's still fresh and comtemporary, helped by some of the catchiest melodies and layered by the smooth production of Zeus B Held, Fabrique is the best kept secret and underrated product of its time.
Great album and fabulous singles/mixes. Being re-released in 2017 (better be quick as it's already November…) according to the 'Fashion Fabrique' Farcebook page. Give Dave Harris some love and it may finally happen!
anyone into vinyl and a slight disco bent is mad not to gobble these up. I played a few tracks as a DJ way back , cant belive the quality of the initial pressings. And the whole album is a grower. What on earth happened to this great Brummie band is a mystery !
A great "set the cool mood" record. The slow tracks ("You Only Left Your Picture" and "Slow Blue") are quite nostalgic and evocative of the great love affair yet to be. The dance tracks are fairly catchy. Above all, the Zeus B Held production remains, 20 years after, one of the more sophisticated I have heard, filled with subtle sounds and electronic wizardry (stated on the LP cover, the list of equipment is rather extensive).
Are you serious about the drums mate? i really thought the flapping was a deliberate thing, especially on track B4, which has some bizzare stereo effects, also this is a mix of simmons and roland tr-808 sequencer, which gives it a rather more techno flavour than the synthpop sequencing of duran duran, talk talk, pet shop boys etc. dressed to kill is a belter!
great tunes and grooves but to me its mainly production lacking some slickness that put this sorely under the radar at the time of release, where it is lackingin production were sloppy drums ( simmons flapping all over the place , sloppy fills) rather dry mix , a bit boxy sounding ,although there is great keyboard work on the extended versions, compare it to for instance a Duran album from the same year (rio) for slickness and you hear what i mean , i am pretty shure with another choice of producer (john punter for instance )and some general tighting up on the drum parts and overall mix this band would have fared better than they did at the time...

@ aqtsi: Agreed. Just listening to this album as I type and it still sounds refreshingly good after all this time. I remember buying it when it was first released alongside a few 12"ers of theirs. Great production and great tunes. It's definitely aged well - albeit a little dated in parts.
