Short intro

Recording Date. June 7, 1967. Das Trinklied vom Jammer der Erde. Gustav Mahler. Carlos Kleiber, Waldemar Kmentt, Christa Ludwig, Wiener Symphoniker. Carlos Kleiber Wiener Symphoniker Christa Ludwig Waldemar Kment Mozart Symphony No. 33, Mahler Das Lied von der Erde 7July1967 Wiener Festwochen Live Mono. Another striking detail is the way Kleiber made me sit up at the end of Von der Schonheit no one else in my experience made me realize its relation to the end of the first movement of the Ninth Symphony. Any performance of Das Lied depends on the success of Der Abschied and this is an excellent one. I get the sense that conductor, orchestra, soloist and audience are all tuned in and there is a real sense of occasion. MOZART - Symphony B-Dur, KV 319. MAHLER - Das Lied von der Erde: 1. Das Trinkied vom Jammer der Erde 2. Der Einsame im Herbst 3. Von der Jugend 4. Von der Schonheit 5. Der Trunkene Fruhling 6. Der Abschied. As a further historical publication from the rich archives of the Wiener Symphoniker the outstanding interpretation of Gustav Mahler's Song of the Earth under the leadership of Carlos Kleiber is available now. This recording is from a live recording of the concert on 7 June 1967 at the Wiener Festwochen, the soloists are Christa Ludwig and Waldemar Kmentt. 1, 3, 5 Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau - movs. 2, 4, 6 Das Lied von der Erde The Song of the E. Described as a symphony when published, it comprises six songs for two singers who take turns singing the Lied von der Erde The Song of the Earth is a composition for two voices and orchestra written by the Austrian composer Gustav Mahler between 1908 and 1909. Described as a symphony when published, it comprises six songs for two singers who alternate movements. Mahler specified the two singers should be a tenor and an alto, or else a tenor and a baritone if an alto is not available. Mahler composed this work following the most painful period in his life, and the songs address themes such as. Von der Jugend. Wiener Symphoniker Carlos Kleiber Waldemar Kmentt. Das Lied von der Erde: IV. Von der Schönheit. Wiener Symphoniker Carlos Kleiber Christa Ludwig. Das Lied von der Erde: V. Der Trunkene im Frühling. Other Albums by Wiener Symphoniker. Der Trunkene im Frühling Live. Nevertheless, IMHO, Das Lied is Mahler's farewell piece, not a death bed piece like the 9th or the 10th. It is like how we get used to numerous versions of comatose Faun Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune or Mahler 9th. Kleiber's choice of tempo seems right to me. Too fast of a tempo in Der Abschied, the farewell feels as if there is no farewell at all. Ludwig treats this as a wagnerian bit. Really out of style. As usual Kleiber hits on some good marks. Mozart's 33rd Symphony, usually a dull gap filler is brought to new life at the direction of Kleiber. Also, for anyone who has any experience with Mahler, you know that everyone he composes is very distinct.
