The Essex Green formed in 1997, adding drummer Tim Barnes, and began to play shows around New York. They issued a split-7 single with The Sixth Great Lake a GuppyboyEssex Green-related side project in 1999. They were asked by Robert Schneider to be a part of The Elephant Six Collective and recorded a self-titled EP, later signing to Kindercore Records, who released their first full-length album later that year. After a world tour, they headed back to the studio in fall of 2005 to begin work on their third album, Cannibal Sea, which was released in March 2006. Their fourth album, Hardly Electronic was released in 2018. Album 2006 12 Songs. Cannibal Sea The Essex Green. Essex Green's previous album was a marvelous fusion of their psychedelic pop, soft rock, folk, and indie pop influences, much like a fusion of the Ladybug Transistor and the Sixth Great Lake not surprising since the three principals in the band also play in those two groups. Released in 2006, Cannibal Sea is a continuation of that sound with the added ingredient of better songs, higher production values, and Final Four-worthy performances. Not that they have been weak in those departments in the past, but now they seem to have hit upon a seam of pure gold. Cannibal Sea is the third album by indie rock band The Essex Green. Cannibal Sea is the equal of anything the Ladybug Transistor have released which is saying a whole lot, and is better than just about any indie pop or rock circa 2006. Read full review. Cannibal Sea is startlingly immediate. It's clear The Essex Green have joined The New Pornographers and The Shins among indie-pop's most insinuating and accomplished bands. This album is rated in the top 10 of albums on . The cannibal sea prances through those various genres with comfortable ease with lush and brilliant arrangements throughout, as catchy as a pinch on the cheek. You'll be singing along with power poppy Don't Know Why You Stay and the bare stream of Rue de Lis before you know it. Helpful
