The album was intended as an experiment using musical styles Brubeck discovered abroad while on a United States Department of State sponsored tour of Eurasia, such as when he observed in Turkey a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song that was played in 98 time, a rare meter for Western music. Columbia president Goddard Lieberson took a chance to underwrite and release Time Out. Dave Brubeck & Paul Desmond. There are many high points to this interesting set including Brubeck-Desmond duets on Over the Rainbow and You Go to My Head, an unaccompanied piano solo on My Heart Stood Still and quartet versions of Jeepers Creepers, Trolley Song and Crazy Chris. Dave Brubeck Quartet was an American modern jazz group formed in San Francisco in 1951 by jazz pianist Dave Brubeck 1920-2012. In what became known as the band's classic line-up, the band featured Joe Morello 19282011 on drums, Eugene Wright on bass, and Paul Desmond 1924-1977 on saxophone. The band remains best-known for their use of odd time signatures, and were a premier group in the cool jazz movement. They produced several standards, including Take Five and Blue Rondo à la Turk. Throughout the years, and changing line-ups, the group maintained a strong fan-base read more. Recorded in 1959, the album combines superb performances by pianist Brubeck, alto saxophonist Desmond, drummer Joe Morrello and bassist Gene Wright. Along with Take Five, the album features another one of the group's signature compositions, Blue Rondo a la Turk. Written by saxophone player Paul Desmond, it has become Brubeck's Stairway To Heaven in terms of how iconic it is to the artist and the genre. The album's opener Blue Rondo A La Turk is less iconic but no less a masterpiece. I'll Never Smile Again feat. Paul Desmond, Ron Crotty & Joe Dodge, 05:28
